I am always on the lookout for reusable water bottles for my family. My kids always ask for water as we pull out of our driveway, even if it is just a trip to the grocery store. So I make it a point to always bring a bottle of water with us. I do not buy plastic water bottles ever! I feel so guilty when I use one at a party or even at a friends house when that is the only water they drink. My kids are 3 & 4, and they are just learning how to drink out of a plastic bottle. Most of the reusable bottles I have for them have straws or were sippy cups or have a wide mouth. When we visited family recently they were exposed to water bottle world and had to figure out how to properly put their mouths on the bottle. My daughter kept sticking her tongue in the bottle! All that to say, plastic water bottles are never used in my house!

rethink plastic

A 16 ounce bottle of water costs about $2.00. It costs a quarter penny to fill up our 16 ounce Safe Sporter™ water bottle. One of the easiest ways to save is to replace your bottled water with reusable, easy to recycle stainless steel water bottles. What kind of savings? Nearly $2000 per year for some families! And consider these other ways we can !rethink: SAVE:

  • Save our oil. One plastic water bottle takes 5 ounces of oil to make. The oil we waste making water bottles every year would power 12 million cars.
  • Save our water. A single plastic bottle can take 2-7 times the amount of liquid that bottle holds just to make the bottle in the first place. Water wasted worldwide every year? Almost one trillion gallons!
  • Save our environment. We recycle less than 15%. The rest end up in landfills, incinerators…or the ocean.

I was sent a Kid Basix The Safe Sporter stainless steel bottle. This bottle has a “Mud Cap” which keeps the spout clean when not in use. The pull spout is easy to open, even for little hands. The wide mouth opening makes it easier to clean and easier to add ice cubes when it is really hot. The bottle is made of food grade 304 stainless steel which contains no BPA or phalates.   The bottle also has a TPR sleeve which provides insulation and keeps fingers from getting cold if the drink is cold. The bottom of the bottle has a “Plastic Coaster” which really works like a coaster. The size of the bottle enables it to fit in cup holders as well. Kid Basix is am American company, but their products are made in China. I appreciate their honesty as well as their commitment to keeping their factories clean, orderly and humane. They visit their factories frequently and are ISO (International Standards of Operation) certified, which is difficult to attain and comes from an outside agency that audits for manufacturing processes and standards. They also have an independent testing lab, STR, test their products from the steel and plastic compounds, to FDA and European child safety standards, to the durability of the stainless steel body.

My kids absolutely love this bottle! They like that they can open it by themselves! This is the first spout bottle they have ever used, when they were younger they had twist spout bottles, but those cups no longer hold enough water for my water hogs, especially when it is so hot out, and they needed help opening them. Every now and then my kids want ice in their water, so it is nice to have that as an option with this bottle. And it is especially nice that there is a sleeve to keep their hands from getting cold…because they let me know when they are uncomfortable!!! I also like their color options available. I like to keep our options to gender neutral, so they are not labeled “hers” or “his”…it just makes life easier!
